What are venous diseases?
Home > Breadcrumbs
Venous diseases are common and can appear as early as 25 years of age. They affect women more than men. The sensation of heavy legs, varicose veins and the frequent appearance of bruises are among the most common symptoms / Adeline Beijns
In a nutshell
Veins are blood vessels that carry blood from different parts of the body to the heart. Their function is to carry blood to the right atrium of our heart. In the heart, the blood will collect more oxygen and prepare to be pumped out through the arteries. This cycle continues as long as we are alive. The situation becomes more complicated in case of venous diseases such as chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, deep or superficial venous thrombosis called phlebitis.
WEAK LEGS
Chronic venous insufficiency is characterized by chronic swelling of the legs and an increase in pressure that gives the feeling of having heavy legs. These problems tend to increase with age and are more frequent and come earlier in women.
VARICOSE
Dilated due to a weakening of the blood vessel wall, varicose veins and spider veins are abnormal blood vessels that are generally not accompanied by symptoms other than aesthetic ones.
SUPERFICIAL THROMBOSIS
Also known as phlebitis, this condition is characterized by the formation of a blood clot in a vein near the surface of the skin. Generally benign, they do however cause pain.
DEEP THROMBOSIS
This disease is a blood clot that develops in a deep vein, usually in the arms or legs. Although it is not directly life-threatening, the blood clot can move and cause a serious pulmonary embolism, for example.
To the rescue!
If you suffer from venous diseases or associated symptoms, so-called venotonic drugs such as Hirudoid® forte or cosmetic solutions such as Hirudoid® natural, which are available as a cooling gel or even as a spray for the cosmetic product, can be valuable allies in providing relief and help to effectively alleviate the problems.
Gels…
Indeed, by stimulating blood circulation and the regeneration of connective tissue, Hirudoid® forte can be particularly effective not only in accelerating the resorption of hematomas and oedemas but also as an antithrombotic and antiphlogistic agent that attempts to prevent the appearance of blood clots. Its active ingredient, mucopolysaccharide polysulfate (called MPS), also aims to stimulate the regression of existing clots and inhibit local inflammatory processes. MPS is effective because it penetrates better into the deeper layers of the skin than, for example, heparin. Hirudoid® forte is thus indicated in case of more severe healing problems, muscle and tendon pain, injuries due to sports or accidents (contusions, strains, sprains…), symptoms of varicose veins such as pain or heavy or swollen legs.
But also a spray!
Hirudoid® natural gel, which contains extracts of witch hazel, ginkgo biloba and hesperidin, is a more natural alternative, without synthetic fragrance and certified vegan. It is used for mild symptoms that can be treated by promoting microcirculation and firming the skin. Also available in spray form, Hirudoid® natural is particularly convenient when traveling.
Prevention and consultation
To prevent venous disorders, remember that physical activity is strongly recommended. It allows not only good circulation but also oxygenation of tissues. Wearing adapted elastic support stockings or socks can also bring some relief. But don’t forget: if the pain persists, don’t hesitate to consult your doctor who will be able to prescribe the appropriate treatment.
